SEND provision is provision for all

Many schools are struggling with rising SEND needs - not just numbers of pupils with SEND but the severity and complexity of their needs. This is particularly the case with Autism and SEMH needs. I like to look at things from a "big picture" perspective and look for solutions that benefit all as well as what an individual needs.

I have worked in specialist settings for Autism and SEMH needs as well as in mainstream covering different age ranges where I set up SEND provisions "in-house" to meet increasing demands. Holding the role of Chair of Governors, I see the challenges from both a teaching and accountability perspective.
I feel strongly that there are a lot of no/low-cost simple changes we can make environmentally that will support ALL pupils, not just those with SEND. This makes a learning walk or audit with me unique as I do not necessarily focus on the teaching itself but the flow, layout and sensory demands in your school.
